PINE KNOT FALL FIBERGLASS FESTIVAL
Camp Tonkawa Springs
Nacogdoches County, Texas
Folks, we asked if you wanted it, several of you said you did, so here it is. The Pine Knot Fall Fiberglass Trailer Festival will be held October 13-14-15th, 2005, at Camp Tonkawa Springs in Northern Nacogdoches County, Texas -- http://www.camptonkawa.com/index.html . If you own a fiberglass travel trailer of any make, you are urged to attend.
This appealing RV Resort is located deep in the beautiful pine forest of East Texas, about fifteen miles North of Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas. ( www.visitnacogdoches.org ). The park has an interesting history which you can read on its website. Its amenities match those of any others. There is a covered picnic pavilion, as well as a clean, comfortable recreation building that will be for our exclusive use. Their website lists their 2004 rates at $16/night. ($2.00/person/night, over 2 people in a unit). They are planning a price increase for 2005, but their group rate will still be $16.00—and the same rate will apply to anyone in our group, whether you come for one night of the rally or come several days early and stay days later. (Sorry, but there is no cable TV. You’ll be having too much fun to want that, anyway).
Make your reservations directly with Camp Tonkawa Springs. The mailing address is 4675 County Road 153, Garrison, TX 75946. Telephone 936-564-8888. Tell them you are registering with the “fiberglass trailer group.” They will block 40 sites for us and will add more if needed. The park is not extremely large, although they have hosted rallies with as many as 75 units. The lady at the desk told me that if we have that many, they might have to put a few of us in an area where there is no sewer. Otherwise, the majority of the sites are full hookup. (This is why you need to make your reservations early, to be sure you get the best spot).
October is usually a most pleasant month in this part of Texas. The high heat and humidity of Summer will have passed, to be replaced with comfortably warm days and cool evenings and nights. The Fall colors may not be showing at this time, but the grass will still be green.
We are announcing this thirteen months in advance so everyone will have enough time to make plans to attend, especially those from neighboring states. We want this to be a fun event. We already have some quality entertainment lined up. If anyone wants to help organize a pot luck, cook-out, table game tournaments (dominos, Scrabble, etc), or other activities, please feel free to volunteer your services. We would also like to have some informative seminars on anything related to traveling and tailering, so if you have a particular expertise in these areas (or others) and would like to lead a discussion, let us know.
There will be no registration fee to attend this rally! The price of your campsite is all it will cost you. We do ask though that you notify us when you make your reservation with the park. Tell us who you are and who will be coming with you, your hometown, and the make, model and year of your trailer. If you have questions, would like personalized information, or would like to be involved and help, feel free to call me—Paul Stringer at 936-853-2428.
