Excellent write up that I'm sure took a tremendous amount of research.  As an aside, our sales person back in January of 96 was Marty Werke.  During our visit she informed me that they could not me our deadline for pick up.  Debbie and I were getting married on March 30th and wanted to take our new Casita on our honeymoon.  Marty reached into her bottom desk drawer and began to call folks to see if they would swap build dates with us.  The first caller agreed so we received our Casita in February and took it on our honeymoon.  All these years we've had someone else's Casita!

We also had the honor some years ago of having a 1981 Casita come to our shop for some maintenance.  It had a "Casita Enterprises, Bakus MN" spare tire cover and the Casita logo was crudely hand painted on the trailer.  A few years later we spotted another and visited with its new owners while we camped in Wyoming.

Once again, great job Eileen!

Thank you, Larry. It was actually a fun mystery to unravel. The 'true' story far surpassed what the rumor mill had concocted.

Speaking of the old Backus models, I had someone contact me just a week or so ago asking how much they could ask for their very rare 1982 Casita for which there are no comps.

The comps are quite old, more than 10 years but there was one for sale in pristine condition with all the appliances present and working.  He was asking 10 grand.  In my opinion that was a museum price.  Neither I nor the factory had an interest in starting a museum.  I don't know if it sold or not.  But I would think based on long ago history any Casita in towable, camping condition should bring 6 grand.  That's a similar asking price for U-Haul's and Scamps from the era.
